風鈴〜伊藤豊雄 + takram〜

赤坂にあるオカムラガーデンコートショールームで開催中の企画展、『風鈴』（〜8/22まで）を見に行って来た。建築家の伊藤豊雄さんとデザインエンジニアリング集団のtakramとのコラボレーションによる、音と光りの空間インスタレーションだ。

画像のように、会場にはうすはりガラスで作られた風鈴が280個吊るされている。
風鈴の下に入るとセンサーで人の動きを感知し、頭上の風鈴が光るとともにチリンと鳴る。するとその周りの風鈴がその音に反応し、まるで音の波紋を描く様に光り、音を奏でていく。

風鈴の音はプログラミングされたものだと思っていたが、どうやらセンサーユニットの内部に鉄琴があり、それをモーターで制御されたハンマーで叩いているとのこと。
非常に心地の良い音だ。この音を見つけるまでには相当の苦労があったに違いない。
一つ一つのユニットのハンダ付けもtakramが行なったというから大変な作業だ。会場には、こうした制作の裏側の様子をパソコンで見る事が出来る。

スペースも限られているので決して派手な展示ではない。だが夏の暑さを忘れさせてくれる落ち着きと心地よさを感じる事が出来る。一つの風鈴と周囲の風鈴、個と群とが奏でる不思議な感覚。ある種の社会性を表現しているとでも言うべきか。自分という存在は周りの人間にも影響を及ぼす。コンセプトは自然の鳥や蛍の群れから着想を得ている様なので、そうした哲学的な発想から考えられたのだろう。

伊藤豊雄さんには申し訳がないが、これは正しくtakuramのインスタレーションだ。
彼らはエンジニア出身であるので、カタチの表現は専門ではない。その代わりに、システムデザインからの体感するコミュニケーション、「見るデザイン」ではなく「感じるデザイン」を得意としている。
この企画展の見所（感じ所とでもいうべきかな？）は、冒頭でも書いたように、群れをなす音と光の体感である。だからこれはtakramのインスタレーションなのだと思う。

takramは、21_21design siteで開催された佐藤卓さんのディレクションによる「water展」にも出展していた。今後も更に活躍の幅を広げていくことだろう。
忘れてはならないのが、彼らはエンジニア出身だということ。だからデザインが劣っているという事ではない。むしろ非常に優れている。こうした異業界出身のデザイナーは今後も増々増えてくるだろう。

ということを、アートスクール出身のデザイナー又はその予備軍達は頭に入れておくべきだろう。
デザインは錬金術でもなければ魔法でもない。従来のデザイン業界の在り方は既に崩壊している。
自分達の周りにいる多くの人が、デザインの未来・可能性を切り開いて行く事が出来る。

そう、今これを読んでいるあなたでもデザインは出来るのだ。
