C-BOTというコンセプトロボット

こんなロボットが街中を徘徊していたらギョッとします。

これは、超音波によって建築物の構造を診断。
そして欠陥などを見つけたらその場で修復出来るロボットです。
その名も「C-BOT」。
画像のように、建物の壁面をよじ上って作業をするみたいです。

デザイナーはドイツの「Niklas Galler」という方。
nr21というデザインチームに所属しているようで、HPを見ると色々なコンセプトモデルを手がけている。（http://www.nr21.com/）

もともとこのC-BOTは、国際デザインコンペティション２００７において金賞に輝いた作品。
このコンペ、前回から引き続きロボットをテーマにしているようで、今後大きな産業となりうるロボット技術をデザイナーがどう考え、どうアプローチ出来るのかが狙いのようです。

確かにロボット産業は注目を浴びていますし、そこでの日本の技術は特に期待されています。
ですが、そのこととデザインとを直結して考えられるデザイナーってどれくらいいるのでしょう？

山中俊治さんや松井龍哉さん、若手ではtakuramuなんかが有名ですが、そういったシステムとデザインとを同時に考えられる人材はまだまだ不足していますね。私も含めて。

残念なのは、コンペの受賞者で日本人が一人もいなかったこと。
このことが何を意味するのか、考えてみませんか？
