対決ー巨匠たちの日本美術

東京国立博物館で開催されている『対決ー巨匠たちの日本美術』は今月１７（日）まで。
最終週ということもありお盆中ということもあり、入場規制がかかっていて炎天下の中３０分くらい立ち往生する羽目になってしまった。普段なら並ぶ前にくじけてしまう所だが今日は我慢。

この展覧会、対決っていう形式になっているけれども、対決している作者達は別に喧嘩していたわけではない。師弟関係とか友人とか、時代を隔てて影響を受けただとか、そうした第三者的な視点から何かしらの接点を持った１２組・２４人の対決ということで比較している。
「対決」っていう少し安易なキャッチコピーではあるけれども、本展をみればそんなこと関係ない。
重要文化財があちこちにあるのだから。初公開の作品もいくつかありそのあたりもポイントが高い。
本来は比較する様なことではないのかもしれないけど、「くらべてみると見えてくる」というコピーの通り、ホントに何かが見えてくる。

圧倒的な作品数とセレクション、全体の構成や比較方法などなど。キュレーターのスキルの高さをものすごく感じます。日本美術にあまり詳しく無い僕にも分かり易く、作者・作品の時代背景を知る事が出来る。



芦雪の描いた虎。雑誌やテレビではよく見るけど、直接見るのは初めて。
虎なんか見た事もないだろうに虎を描いている...と思っていたが、間近で見ると...やっぱり猫だ。
「ごろごろにゃ〜お」とか言ってそう。かわいい...。
そんなことよりも、全体の構図がホントに素晴らしい。一番左の屏風に描かれているのなんてヒゲだけです。こうした構成を、この時代の人がやっていたというのが驚き。




宗達の「蔦の細道図屏風」　画像の上が屏風の左側で下が右側です。
これ、個人的に滅茶滅茶好きです。だってものすごくデザインされているんですもの。
左と右とを入れ替えても屏風の絵が繋がります。使われている緑青色がとても上品です。

会場の説明書きに、何度か「デザイン」って言葉が使われていたけど間違っていないと思う。
間違いなくここにある作品の中には、デザインの要素を感じるものがいくつもある。
現代よりも明らかに材料とかのツールは少ないはずなのに、クリエイティブな表現方法は凄いものがある。

光琳と乾山が兄弟だったり、対決とは関係ない所での人物の関わり合いがあるのも面白い。
そういう部分がわかると、より一層作品の流れを時代背景とともに考えることが出来る。

見終わるのに二時間以上はかかったかな？　じっくり見入ってしまったのでとても疲れました。
でもとても良いものが見れた。以前にも増して日本美術への関心が高くなりました。



午後５時過ぎだというのにまだまだ客足は途絶えていませんでした。
久しぶりに並んでまで見に行った甲斐がありました。

The very next time I read a blog, I hope that it doesn’t fail me just as much as this particular one.
