「Be Honest!」artek + marimekko

用事で表参道方面まで出かけたので、ついでと言ってはなんだがスパイラルガーデンで開催中の
「Be Honest!〜次世代へのタイムレスデザイン」（9/23迄）を見て来た。

フィンランドを代表するインテリアブランドの「artek」と、ファブリックブランドの「marimekko」が、デザインにおけるサスティナビリティーを考え、それぞれのブランド毎にデザイナー・アーティスト・建築家などを起用し、新たな考え・側面を見せるという企画展である。



アルヴァ・アアルトのデザインによる、artek「Stool 60」は今年で発売から75周年だという。
形は変わらずとも、時代にしっかりと根付いて愛用され続けているその製品は、間違いなくプロダクトデザインとしてのサスティナビリティーの要素を満たしていると言えるだろう。
しかし、単にデザインが優れているというだけでその時間を得てきた訳ではない。作り手の取り組む姿勢、企業としての商品への理解、そしてそれらを受け取るユーザーとの協調...。単なる綺麗事ではない、モノ作りの本質が、そのイスを通して感じることが出来る。
会場では、これを題材にしたデザイナー達のユーモア溢れる作品が展示されていた。

marimekkoに関してはクラシックから新作まで、「タイムレスの実証」といったコンセプトを表現するファブリックが展示されていた。普段はテキスタイルには中々触れ合う事が出来ないので、同じデザインでも表現手法が違う事に色々と考える事も多い。こちらは展示スペースが小さかったのが少し残念かな。



こんな風に、Stool 60を積み上げるインスタレーションもありました。
どんな風に固定しているのかな...と接合部分を覗いてみると、上の足から下の天板へ細い釘で斜めに打ち付けているだけでビックリしました。予想では、天板の裏から太いネジとかでしっかりと固定してあるのかなと思っていましたが。それでもしっかりとしてますから大丈夫なんですねー。

この企画展は「高いクオリティ」や「世代を超えて愛される」というのをキーワードとしてサスティナブルへとアプローチしているのですが、見る人にはただ単に「良いものを作り続ける事が良い事」として捉えて欲しくないですね。

作品の見えない部分に潜む様々な事情を想像し読み取りながら、サスティナビリティーって何ぞや？と考えてもらいたいです。でもあまりにも深く考え過ぎて昨今のエコ事情にまで入り込むと、色々なギャップに悩んでしまうと思うのでご注意を。

ちなみに僕は、デザインはデザインだけで成り立たないよなーって改めて思いました。

Another thing I’ve really noticed is the fact that for many people, less-than-perfect credit is the reaction of circumstances past their control. Such as they may are already saddled through an illness so they have large bills for collections. It may be due to a job loss and the inability to do the job. Sometimes divorce proceedings can really send the finances in an opposite direction. Thanks sharing your notions on this blog.

Having Andrew as our first Farmer Scholar is the worst representation of this school that I could find. He uses and abuses girls all the time, lies, smokes pot, and drinks underage. Personally, I would hope our school could find a better person to act as a role model for our school. I have no idea how someone as vain, stupid, and egotistical as him could have beat out the competition for this scholarship. He didn’t even receive very good high school grades or SAT scores. I hope the future Farmer Scholars have better morals, are more intelligent, and do not follow in his footsteps.
